after a mentally straining week, I finally got to get back into what I love
While the update has been delayed further by Sparks's screwy new router and the obnoxious canine tufts from hell, I decided to work on another feature I thought might be useful
now that I'm out of school and have had my few weeks to screw off, I'm back at this. I promise we want V2 as much as you do!
with some help from KITO admin Redeye, I was able to look at the slider code feralheart uses in an attempt to fix my own. It's been a long fight, but progress is being made
Our main issue was sending information over the server. You could go through character creation fine and see your character ingame, but on a server, others either wouldn't see you or you'd be superbroken
Today, with help from cord and our test server from Sparkoo , we got to hop on and found that values are finally sending!
as you can see, cord put time into her character while I used as many different colors as I could to make sure they sent LOL
this may seem small, but it is huge for me. This is the baseline for the slider function. Once the animations get more fine-tuned and character creation is fixed up, these should be fairly functional!
With the new ambient lighting during the night cycle, it's time to go through our materials and edit them. Critters will respond to lighting, but their eyes will still glow:
dang it Chopper, we raised you better than this ):
Not really V2 updates, but I've added in a chat filter that censors any of the derogatory terms found on the rules thread. It's disabled in PM and party because what you do there is none of our business - however if someone asks you not to use those words, please respect them!
In other news, I've modified the loginserver to save item files after equipping, unequipping or stashing items, skill changes, HP changes and pet changes. What this means is that the server should stop eating your items/pets in the case of a crash! If you run into any problems that you think may relate to this change, please make use of the bug board!
V2's models are coming along nicely and they're finally to the point that I can use the character creator without crashing every time I touch something, lol
SO in light of that I decided to redo my attempt at a preset selector and was actually successful!
in V2, you'll be able to assign your own presets. obviously we will still need to open submissions so everyone can see your textures, but once the update is out you'll be able to get on and apply them yourself immediately! there will be more info coming out about this in an announcement when we're closer to release/opening submissions, but here's a quick explanation (with pictures!)
when you click to create a new character, you'll be greeted with this screen. if you choose "Custom," then character creation goes on as normal. however, if you choose preset...
you get the option to type in your material name! to avoid preset theft, every preset you apply will automatically be prefixed with your username and an underscore. this means any existing preset materials you have may need to be renamed - but once again, more details on that will come later!
so, an update has come out and I've submitted my presets, and I have the mat name all correct. I go to make a new character, choose preset and type in my material, then hit next...
snazzy! now you can choose your character's body parts like normal. and, of course, in addition...
sliders! I know a lot of you have been asking if I can implement sliders in the campaigns so that you can test different looks with your presets applied, but with this change, you can now make a new character and apply a preset, even if it hasn't been submitted to us yet, and play with the sliders!
the last thing on the list with this one is to make it so if someone applies a preset that has not been sent in yet, they appear as a default character instead of bright, marshmallow white. once that's in place and any bugs are found and squashed, we'll be all set to go with our new preset system! hopefully this is as helpful to you guys as it is to us (particularly Sparkoo - applying a hundred different presets by hand is about as fun as it sounds)
It may be about 5am and I just woke up because my chinchilla is loud and I'm rambling but praise Hyper as he has coded into v2 basically a thing that converts old player bodies into the new ones meaning I don't have to sit at the host laptop for days hand-converting them right before release without coffee as I'm trying to give that up for the most part.
Praise the sun
